In his lecture, Professor Heeger focused on creativity and discovery in science and the close association of creativity with risk-taking in scientific research. He used examples from his life to illustrate creativity, and distinguish discovery and creativity in past Nobel Prizes. He also summarized the early discoveries in the field Semiconducting and Metallic polymers, and the risks associated with that early work.
His lecture focused on some of his current scientific and entrepreneurial activities that range from polymer based solar cells to biosensors. His talk concluded with advice to young and aspiring scientists, to the Nobel Laureates of the future.
